EA + Spore = Stinker

Allrighty then,

Waited like 4 years for the release. Bought it the day it came out, what do I get? A game a 3 yr old could beat in 2 days time.

The biggest let downs for me are simple. 1 every arm leg has the same stats, increasing size and muscle mass do nothing, the parts give no real bonuses as you evolve as you can easily earn enough "DNA" to max out everything.

The disappointment continues as evolution seems to die right after the second stage. Leaving you clothes and armor and becomes a badly designed civilization game. Where you only mine spice and blow up other colonies. No advancing technology, nothing except a Risk like scenario.

But then you get to go into space! Woohoo {Really 0 sarcasm here... OK a LOT of sarcasm here.} You can buy every item you need off a neighboring star. Leaving 99.99% of the planets untouched. Everything is within a few parsecs. So uhm... WHY? You should at least have to travel a little for the biggest and best items. Wormholes are useless as they take you to other areas the same as where you were.

Sure terraforming and planet creation is fun, but every colony is exactly the same layout as every other colony. C'mon 2 or 3 different models wouldn't have been too tough!

How they can call this a game of evolution astounds me! I have not been so disappointed in a game... ever! It seriously looks like the game was put on the shelf for 4 years, then rushed out. Now they are planning an expansion pack, less than 3 months after release. Milk that cow dry EA!

New group website :)

Woohoo! The wife and I got a virtual private server and she setup the server end and I installed Joomla and built the site. Hope you like it.

Well since this is a blog I'll tell you about the fun of setting it up.
Right after the link...

http://savetheplanetonline.org

It is devoted to spreading the word on charity apps. Check it out. So as for Joomla, it is a great open source project. Unfortunately not 100% noob friendly. I've tinkered a little with html but never to the extent of setting up a full site and forum.

Being optimistic I sent out a note telling people it would be released Sunday. I started Friday morning to build something. The first things I did was the tutorial from the site {Always a great place to start ;) } I did fine setting up the articles, and I'm sure the site will change evolve on a near daily basis.

The fun part was installing the forum, spent over an hour before I realized it wasn't installed right! I literally cheered when it finally appeared. Spent all my waking time trying to think about and design the site. Right up till release I was tweaking and poking... So good tip make sure you read the article on how to install.

But s of this moment we are still far from done, but I made the promise so released it, there is a LOT more coming. 3 weeks over 1000 members. This is only the beginning.

Can Dogs Help Locate Rare & Endangered Plants?

Since dogs use their sense of smell to uncover illegal drugs or locate missing persons, why not use them to help find and protect endangered plants & animals? Here's the story of how a 4-year-old Belgian sheepdog is helping the Nature Conservancy test the efficacy of using dogs to sniff out the threatened Kincaid’s lupine.
